What are "Samples per second" for Live Encodings?

In the streams section of the dashboard for a live encoding, there’s a graph showing samples per second. What exactly are those samples and how do they relate to segments (if at all)?

Samples per seconds can mean two different things:

1.) For video, it’s the frames per seconds that are read from the input - that should in best case be constant. E.g. if the input has 30fps, you should always see 30 samples per second here. If not, then the ingest is too slow, or anything else wrong is going on.

2.) For audio, it’s basically the same, however for audio we are talking about samples and not frames. So if you have an audio input with 48kHz, you should also see 48000 here.
